Rocketship – I Love You Like The Way I Used To

What a way to wake up this morning. Swap your cereal for a bowl of hammond, switch that croissant for a blend of summery riffs and substitute your Columbian for a splendid river of driving harmonies. Yep, every morning should be accompanied by the awesome charms of Rocketship. It’s a decade since their classic ‘A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness’ was released but it is still as sprightly as the day it was conceived. You’ll probably know their flagship ‘Hey, Hey Girl’ already (swoonsome) so here is one of the many pin up’s taken from that memorable debut. You can hear snatches of Rocketship’s influences and what a heady gang they are; keep an ear open for the Boo Radleys, My Bloody Valentine and a sprinkling of retro Wedding Present. But, Rocketship’s joie-de-vivre is all of their own making. The band made music like a group of best friends, each having a killer input whether it be Dustin Reske’s ebullient vocals or Heidi Barney’s tripping the light fantastic key strokes. As refreshing a fruit smoothie and what’s more there is now some new Rocketship to fall in love with. KD
