With just 2 weeks to go to the big day it’s time to elevate proceedings and who better to supply a dose of seasonality than the Smashing Pumpkins (!). ‘Christmastime’ was recorded for the ‘A Very Special Christmas 3’ charity record and despite unmistakely sounding like a Pumpkins track the whole thing was recorded without a hint of their signature guitars. The production is lush, due in part to the 45-piece string ensemble but Corgan must also be congratulated, as he has rarely sounded so affecting. With the band in the recording studio and an album likely to drop something in 2007 fans are likely to feel that Christmas glow way beyond the confines of December. KD
