Power of Dreams – See You

‘Positivity’ was Dublin’s Power of Dreams third album and it saw them veer away from their signature acoustic/jangly chords to a harder face. It was an unsettling move for fans of the band but this about turn had been signalled on the preceding album ‘2 Hell With Common Sense’. Power of Dreams featured two siblings Craig and Keith Walker and Mike Lennox and legend tells of the majors chasing the band for their signature around the nightclubs of Dublin before they had even reached the legal drinking age (18). Their early shows had them supporting the Wedding Present and the House of Love in what surely must have been a near mystical experience. I can recall a Power of Dreams gig with other hugger favourites the Brilliant Trees in Galway in 1993 that reduced me to a quivering adoring mass. Power of Dreams had a huge following in Ireland and Japan, which is hardly surprising given their cultured song writing gifts. ‘See You’ is probably the closest they came to reconvening their original sound on ‘Positivity’. The lyrics are sweetly sentimental proffering a suitable bed for the shimmering chords. KD

I saw them support both ‘The House of Love ‘ and ‘The Wedding Present’ way back when. I have to confess to throwing lumps of chalk at them at ‘The House of Love’ gig. The lead singer bloke was threatening me and a mate for most of their set, cursing between his teeth at us. I suppose I can’t blame him as in retrospect it was pretty annoying. It was great fun all the same though. I still have one of their 12″ on Setanta Records in the house somewhere. Nice blog.Matt Vinylhttp://mattvinyl.blogspot.com/index.html
