Seabear – Libraries

Despite coming from the same country that gave us Sigur Ros and Mum, Seabear tend to play their hand in an altogether more uncomplicated manner. No less enjoyable it might be said as evidenced by ‘Libraries’ from their new album ‘The Ghost That Carried Us Away’. The song has an unhurried swing that is perfect for wallowing about in whether you need a happy boost or just want to wash the world from your aural hairs. This is Seabear’s second release following the ‘Singing-Arc’ EP which, incidentally, can be downloaded free from the bands website. You’ll notice a nice progression in Seabear’s capabilities (maybe it was that shared split with Annuals that spurred them on) on ‘Libraries’ where the melodies practically levitate in the air ready and waiting for the next opportune listener to pluck them from obscurity and adopt them as his/her favourite new song. And don’t zip your joy, spread the word. KD

Downloaded this album a while back and, much to my surprise, I love it. On the surface it’s just middle-of-road indie-pop, but Seabear pulls it off so gracefully. It’s pop music even elitists can enjoy.
