Parts & Labor – Fractured Skies

If you want to witness first hand a recording of the eye of a ferocious storm then ‘Fractured Skies’ is your man. Taken from Brooklynites Parts & Labor’s 4th album ‘Mapmaker’ it is a possessed piece of rapid-fire incendiary audio. The first thing that hits you straight between the eyes is Christopher Weingarten’s sticks which are swung with the desperation of a man fighting off a hungry grizzly. I’m sure it’d be hard to find a program that could match the beats per minute so this lad must have arms of steel. Dan Friel and BJ Warshaw’s montage of vocals are equally impressive matching the frenetic music through undiluted passion. The final piece of alchemy comes by way of a horn section that could artfully soundtrack the arrival of the Aurora Borealis. ‘Mapmaker’ is released on the 22nd of May on Jagjaguwar. KD
