Fionn Regan may have raised the bar of late for Irish troubadours but Galway’s Adrian Crowley seems destined to take the art to an altogether loftier perch. He has thusfar had a slow ascent to micro fame yet if his latest LP ‘Long Distance Swimmer’ gets a proper airing he should be half way to becoming a bona fide star. Crowley’s melancholy vocals and forlorn yet nimble acoustics evoke a world weary Nick Drake yet it almost seems churlish to pigeonhole such a singular talent. Take the title track of his latest as a heartbreaking example of his burning talent where nothing is hurried and that signature downbeat mood emerges gradually from the wailing instrumentation. 2008 should be his.
