Sufjan Stevens – Come On! Let's Boogey To The Elf Dance!
If you like Christmas music then you’ll love the mp3hugger curated Christmas compilation ‘An Indiecater Christmas’, you can buy it here!
Sufjan Stevens is something, not content with just labouring on the mammoth 50 states project he also finds the time to record a different Christmas EP every December. Last Christmas his label Asthmatic Kitty decided to group the EP’s together on the 5-Disc ‘Song For Christmas’ compilation. As you’d expect Stevens does a good job of restoring traditional themes within the context of a modern record. Many of the arrangements are low ebbed and pensive but never result in a dull listen. With such an array of goodies on offer it will probably take you a few Christmas’s to work your way through the whole set. I’m only onto disc 3 and find myself completely taken with ‘I Saw Three Ships’ from Hark! and this little snow melter ‘Come On! Let’s Boogey To The Elf Dance!’ from Ding! Ding! This is one of the many outstanding Stevens originals that are speckled amongst the traditional carols and hymns and is guaranteed to give you goosebumps whether you love or detest the season of goodwill.
