Youth Lagoon – July

This tip comes courtesy of the Very Most’s Jeremy Jensen, someone who we share a very close taste in music with. Our association doesn’t end there however as his band have taken up residency on Indiecater for a couple years now supplying the label with some of its finest moments. Anyway, Jeremy pointed me in the direction of Trevor Powers from his hometown of Boise, Idaho (Built To Spill are also residents) who plies his trade under the name of Youth Lagoon. Seems there is a record due in the summer called ‘The Year of Hibernation’ (on Josh Blalock‘s label Juno Beach, the man certainly has taste) but a couple of tracks have already made their way blogside. ‘July’ is particularly noteworthy, all incremental atmosphere and introverted vocals which flowers into something resembling what the Late Cord blew our minds with a couple of years ago. We’ll be hearing lots more no doubt. KD
