Utterly awful band name but that hasn’t deterred ubercool label 4AD from climbing aboard. And their confidence in this LA act is well founded given the strength of tracks like ‘Only In My Dreams’ from new album ‘Mature Themes’. Ariel Pink has the smell of a bedroom project, inspired by and inherently capable of retooling past musical glories. ‘Only In My Dreams’ has the jangle and slightly blurred production that is a poke in the eye for glossy overproduced chart pap and for that we have to doff our hat.
