The neatest of bass turns and an Ian Curtis reflection turns this tune into something like Joy Division could have produced if they’d ever found that elusive happiness. And that shard of light is evident in the free and easy persuasion that so infiltrates ‘A Man and a Diving Soul’. The boy/girl (Erwan Pépiot/Aurélie Tremblay) harmonies add something different, a XX contemporariness if you will. An understated work but still bringing with it a Parisian grandiosity. KH
