Sometimes I feel bad for writing about certain songs. Perhaps on reflection they aren’t up to much, maybe they should have fallen into the recycle bin like so many others. I know for certain I am never going to feel that way about Grand Archives ‘Torn Blue Foam Couch’ though. This song has been sending shivers down my spine all weekend. It forms part of a self-released CDR, which Sub Pop have recently got their mitts on. ‘Torn Blue Foam Couch’ is a real heartbreaker that starts out slow and lonely and finishes up like a barnstorming epic. The band don’t have a website up yet so details are sketchy. What we do know is that Grand Archives are a 5-piece from Seattle fronted by ex Band of Horses (hmm, now the sound makes sense) Mat Brooke. Having been a big part of BOH’s ‘Everything All The Time’ album Brooke took no part in the tour to promote the album. Pity, but as I busy myself scouring the internet for a spine warmer perhaps he will have the last laugh. KD
