The Wendys – The Sun’s Going To Shine For Me Soon

This may not be the best song ever, it’s probably not even the best Wendys song but boy do I love it. In fact if this blog were to have a theme tune (!) ‘The Sun’s Going To Shine For Me Soon’ would probably be very high in the running. Baggy meets jangle pop who then decide to set up home together with dream pop as their friendly lodger. The song is taken from the Wendys debut ‘Gobbledygook’, which was released on Factory Records as the label was about to implode. The result was disastrous for the Scottish band and sent them into a tailspin that saw no new releases for almost a decade. Happily lead singer Jonathan Renton and guitarist Ian White are still creating sounds as Art Plastic so there is still every chance of hearing the magic of ‘The Sun’s Going To Shine For Me Soon’s supple chimes in a live setting.
