And you thought Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were being especially clever by fuzzing out the opening bars of ‘Some Loud Thunder’. The truth is that the Wrens were putting the fuzz into fuzzing years earlier with the distorted early movements of ‘Everyone Choose Sides’. The surprising thing about the Wrens lack of success is that so many people actually recognise this fact, yet they remain sidelined despite releasing one of the noughties most outstanding albums ‘The Meadowlands’ in 2003. Of course the Wrens have been around for the longest time (1989) and have suffered enough knock backs to understand what a nasty business they find themselves in. ‘Everyone Choose Sides’ is a multi-faceted animal, bulging at the seams with ideas. One minute it is knocking bone china from the mantelpiece the next it is bleaching the world by way of a delightfully manicured chorus. You show now know what the next album you are going to buy is.
