Quite what effect the next Radiohead album will have in shaking up the industry remains to be seen but Oxford’s finest were always more than just about the music. If you were to delorean back a couple of years ago the very mention of giving songs away for free would have industry necks reaching for their solicitors number. But times have changed and the most forward thinking bands have realised that to get something back they need to give something in return. So in 2007 the internet wires are awash with freebies. It makes the music blogger’s job easier (and to some extent harder due to the vast array of material to watch over) not having to worry about those dreaded cease and desist warnings. Just 5 minutes ago I flicked over to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s site and up popped a couple of songs from each of their albums to download for null cents. As you know this is a band on the move and this small gift to potential fans will boomerang ten fold in concert and merchandise sales. Some day soon all bands will be made this way. KD
