John Ralston – Ghetto Tested

Some songs are just nice, some even go so far as to not sound icky. ‘Ghetto Tested’ is one of those, so perfectly harmless but with enough gumption to get to the third listen. You’ll find it on John Ralston’s ‘Sorry Vampire’, a set of emo tinged vignettes that are assured of at least a medium sized audience. There is nothing particularly challenging about ‘Ghetto Tested’ yet it’s hard to discard it due to Ralston’s mazy vocal dribbles that more often than not hit their target. The sound is polished, something you’d expect from an artist on his 4th full length (1 as the Legends of Rodeo). One imagines that if Ralston could wield a little more of the experimental spirit that permeates at the start of the song he could be onto something altogether more special. KD
