Atlas Sound is the work of Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox and many of the recordings that are appearing around the net were conceived when he was much younger. Not sure if Atlas Sound is an entirely serious project, the music is always enchanting but seems to be dispatched into the world with a near blasé attitude. Cox is certainly prolific (2 EP’s and a debut album this year already) and much of what he produces as Atlas Sound has a hazy dreamy quality that more often than not hits the mark. Make sense that he has covered some Grizzly Bear material because the 2 acts inhabit a similiar neck of the woods. ‘Activation’ is one of Cox’s more lucid moments and is taken from the ‘Orange Ohms Glow’ EP. This one leans towards an hallucinogenic Brian Jonestown Massacre (or the Dandy Warhols whichever way you lean on that particular debate) direction and slips by enjoyably like a comforting evening spent on a beach watching the waves endlessly advance and retreat.
