I was liking this band already but when I read that the first albums they bought included ‘Going Blank Again’, ‘Nevermind’ and erm ‘Kick’ (it’s good) I knew they were kindred spirits of sorts. Not that you could filter any of the above from listening to ‘Spiders, Snakes’. The near perfect vocal interplay between Aaron Gerber and Sarah Winchester is a study in hushed dynamics and the shuffling instrumentation is an equally adept study in quiet drama. It’s taken from the Portland bands debut album ‘Cove’ which includes a batch of similarly beguiling portraits of sound. KD
