This is my type of band, sporting a mildly ridiculous name, a neat turn of melody and a penchant for practising in spaces that won’t impact on the neighbours. Plus they give fuzzy guitar parts back to the people, welcome home you noisy bastards. Milks & Rectangles come from deepest Canada but their new ‘Troubleshooters’ EP (it’s freediculously good) should see lots of weblog action the world over. That’s because they peddle good old-fashioned indie, the type that those of a certain vintage will remember as being prominent in the early nineties. Opening track ‘Wink And A Gun (The Jury’s Hung)’ is perhaps the highlight with its punchy playing and Malkmusesque vocals. It’s full of personality, a ditty to swell the heart and occupy the toes. KD
