Lefse Records appeared from nowhere last year and since that faithful introduction seem intent on appearing on this blogger’s radar on a near weekly basis. The quality of their roster is universally high (and hooray for signing Galway’s own Low Sea who we’ve featured on several occasions) and newbie’s appear if anything to be getting even better. The latest is Venezuelan electronic artist Ezequiel Bertho (performing as Algodón Egipcio) whose upcoming ‘La Lucha Constante’ is due in March. There are 2 songs being floated by Lefse to illustrate Cheky’s gift and ‘El Ingenio Humano’ is far and away my favourite. This is simply wondrous material, cinematic and fuelled by a swaggering personality it will take something very special to shake it from the summit of our songs of the year (and he says that 19 days into 2011). Yeah, it’s that good, like El Guincho were he to concentrate on the audio rather than on the splendid visual. If we were in the tipping business then the barman would be retiring after his shift this evening. KD
