Believe it or not I’m often thrown off the scent by band names that don’t make sense to me. For this crazy reason I’m far more predisposed to clicking on a song by a group with a simple moniker. So up to last week I had avoided seeking out the charms of Perth’s Tame Impala (Impala is an antelope like creature). It’s a mistake I’m going to have to rectify given that new song ‘Apocalypse Dreams’, from the bands yet to be released sophomore ‘Lonerism’, has produced a quart of salivation from my normally salivation-free ear canals. This is a bold statement of intent that takes psychedelic themes to future places, or at least to as far as Jellyfish foraged. To put it in context, here is an act that has travelled from its innerspeak to its outer limits. My deference to simplicity hereby endeth. KD
