Waves Crashing – Rose Hue

You know me by now, just can’t let that go of that 90’s rock sound and within seconds of Seattle’s Waves Crashing appearing we knew we were ready to be handed a proper old school indie banger. That is because the chords on ‘Rose Hue’ rush about with an abandonment, the vocals initially hold back before the inevitable thunder and there are beats aplenty to fill the minute gaps. Allied to all that is Joshua Calisti’s lead performance which reminds me of both Neil Halstead (Mojave 3/Slowdive) and Dean Wareham of Luna fame. Plenty time for this 3-piece to exercise their instrumental muscle too as ‘Rose Hue’ careers along at a rate of knots and us thinking of the times when the moshpit was the place we called home. Really bodes well for Waves Craeshing’s new EP ‘Ancora’, representing the alt rock times of yore in style. KH
