Ace Landauer – Deathwish

Oh so slow, those hands draped over an acoustic guitar and we know we are in for a quiet, reflective but not entirely tender kind of listen. Or at least that is what you get from a title that leaves little room for light, the music for its part though has a vulnerable beauty as exemplified for the drifting strings and general mood of fireside bon-homie. The slow cooked Beach Boys harmonies go a long way to tenderising our affections, the flitting brass adding even more romanticism and finally a Santa Cruz bard who proves to have the kind of set of heartfelt delivery to completely woo us. Understated but I fell hopelessly in love all the same. KH
