There is a thoughtfulness to ‘Owls’, Marlow Shields always ensuring there is something tinkering on or around the edges. It gave me genuine early Stones vibes but existing in the folk domain rather than anything that you’d call the blues. So some familiarity but a commanding presence because those tones and the subtle intonations just have something about them, I mean I even heard Nick Cave in there somewhere. Heavenly strings meant that I was in full swoon, the staggered progression just that lovely contrast for the orchestral swells and cooing all around. KH
