It is not just that this act are called Smoke Midi that I could feel ‘Speed at Which I Fall’ billowing in a fashion that sets them apart. So we get noise, industry, chopping and changing but crucially a song that has indie-rock anthem stamped all over it. We could be peaking in the noughties alt rock scene here and it feels good to feel that degree of rebellion all over again. It throws two fingers in the face of convention and sometimes that is all we need to restore that liberating youthful insouciance. KH
