At the very least you have to say that Horsepower live up to that moniker of theirs for there is some amount of juice/fuel to ‘Excalibur’. Not at first but as soon as the chords are released it’s as if we are thrust into the coalface of indie rock industry. There is neat interplay between Charlotte Weinman’s words and all the chord laced action too, as if each is spurring the other on. Come the end it felt as if ‘Excalibur’ had arrived at a degree of fury that we wouldn’t have thought possible early doors. And there is even more, a motorik that resets the piece mid section and adds even more colour to the cheeks of a cherubic blockbuster. Lower Dens spring to minds. KH
