There is plenty of bluster to ‘La Plaza’, in fact you could almost say that Brooklyn trio Marvelle Oaks take the Velvet Underground alt template and run with it. That also means that there is plenty room for a tune in there, despite all the woozy playing and cool word play you can tell there will be postmen the world over humming along. Of maybe not but it is an illustration that beneath all their alternative leaning there is a band here who can craft a toe-tapper into the bargain. KH
