If there is one thing that ‘Petunia’ tells us is that Gareth Inkster packs emotion with such authenticity that any 3/4 minutes in his company is going to be fully rewarded. On this occasion there is just a heartrending run of effects that had me thinking of ‘The Holdovers’ and the way folk has that endless capacity for running the rule over our tear ducts and a general return to the sort of innocence we thought we’d left behind. In short this is hugely emotional stuff with echoes of Sufjan Stevens and Damien Jurado and that all important Gareth Inkster sprinkling of gold dust. KH
