Charles James & The Rise – Illegitimi Non Carborundum

I won’t even attempt to pronounce the latin, but then Donegal’s Charles James & The Rise aren’t the sort to stress us out to any degree because their work is a boon for the dreamers that are left in the world. Better to sit back and let the drama play out in front of us and there is a field of pastoral effects here that border on the spiritual. Hard not to come away from ‘Illegitimi Non Carborundum’ with anything other than an emotional swell, the rebellion in the creation but also the reassuring arm around the shoulder. A big sigh song.
