Standish & Co. – Enemy Lines

The horns were quite something but then we shouldn’t have been surprised at their arrival for Standish & Co. lean into orchestral manoeuvres quite early on ‘Enemy Lines’. Not only that but they have a singer who sounds like he is a leader and a conductor for what emerges on this bright eyed folk tune. The lines are full of home truths too, the music just adding a swell of emotional cushioning to remind of the best of the Waterboys. It felt oh so very beyond my usual indie rock direction but this is affecting stuff – a rare case of coming away from a piece of music more intact as a person than minutes earlier. KH
