It is a headrush of electronic swells alright, the kind you expect of a dream you don’t want to end for ‘Multiphase’ has a fantastical quality that is topped off by a fluttering vocal from Roger Sellers that never dips beneath that of aiming for the stars. This could be what Chicago might have been if they’d dabbled with the machines a little more and the machines responded in kind. The result is a source of wonder, a song that works because it bequeaths much needed bright-eyed innocence to a overtly serious adult world. KH
