Verse Metrics – Sea Fairies (We’re Not Alone In This Lake)

There is a big sense of ambition to ‘Sea Fairies (We’re Not Alone In This Lake)’, reminded me a lot of Interpol (and Glasvegas) but also going back a little further with Echo & The Bunnymen. What sets the track apart is that Verse Metrics clearly follow their own lead, not resorting to the tried and instead testing new formulations so that the listener is genuinely invited into new pastures of sound. In fact the Glaswegians might be in experimental territory here, even prog at times when that big opus of an instrumental break takes us into marching band territory. Left me partially confused, but fully exhilarated. KH
