When its kingpins start to sound like they’re rehashing you know a genre is in trouble. I speak of Explosions In The Sky and their stale last album ‘Take Care, Take Care, Take Care’, and the genre they’ve electrified for the best part of a decade post-rock. Not many strands of indie do to me what those instrumentals can, most of what you’ll find on ‘Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place’ made it onto our wedding video. Lately though thrills within the post-rock domain have been thin on the ground. Maybe this band from Kent can prove its salvation. Goodness knows their debut ‘Paper Canyon’ proved they were at least capable of something incredible. Take a listen to ‘We Anchor In Hope’ for an example and then cross your fingers that this year’s ‘As The Spirit Wanes’ is equally as cinematic. KD
