Dusty Springfield – Goin’ Back
A bit shameful that the only song from Dusty Springfield that we can truly say we know is her duet with the Pet Shop Boys ‘What Have I Done To Deserve This?’. There are probably plenty of others in there at the back of our sonic nodes, hopelessly floating about without their metatags. Well, we’ve put one to bed over the last few weeks thanks to the resurrection of the ESB’s 1980′s Christmas advert that features Springfield’s ‘Goin’ Back’ as the anchor to a pre-colourless Alan Hughes return to the homestead following his eviction due to emigration. Perfect timing it is too given the trauma of the last few years at home and the subsequent flight of the country’s young people. And while ‘Goin’ Back’ may not be strictly a Christmas song it fits the role perfectly. We laughed, we cried, we embraced to the sounds of those tolling bells. KD
