Harper Simon’s new LP is called ‘Division Street’ and for a minute I thought I’d spotted the primary influence in it’s naming. With receding braincells […]

Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy
Mention Sigur Ros and Explosions In The Sky to most people and they are likely to return the favour with quizzical looks. This despite the fact that compositions from both parties have high audiobility throughout the mainstream media. A little bit down the pecking order, but not adverse to TV soundtracks, are Scottish siblings Boards of Canada but that’s not to say that they don’t have a holster of ready classics. The offbeat, almost sun-kissed glow of ‘Dayvan Cowboy’ is definitely one. Taken from their last album, the distant glory of 2005′s ‘The Campfire Headphase’, it is a work of two halves. The first is awash with electro feedback and celestial murmurings while part two settles into a gentle chord-laced groove with velvet Eno trim. There have been consistent rumours that Boards of Canada are working on new material, the first for 6 years, and given what has gone before expectations are predictably high. KD
