Harper Simon’s new LP is called ‘Division Street’ and for a minute I thought I’d spotted the primary influence in it’s naming. With receding braincells […]

Mothlight – Marble Giant
Mothlight are another duo from San Diego that engagingly plunder from the past. Details on the pair are sketchy but for the moment their recently released EP ‘American Spirit’ (free here) offers enough ambience to keep us sated. While we’d best describe their sound as tropical 80′s it is distinctly contemporary track two ‘Marble Giants’ that grabs us by the handlebars. And what a ride it turns out to be, what with those Peter Cetera-esque vocals (ok, so maybe some dayglo does creep in) and the spangling guitar parts. The only downside is that it is about 2 minutes too short given the promising turns. These sparks could yet produce impressive flames. KD
