Fresh from the berating I unleashed (a tiny twitter outpouring as opposed to a nasty and profanity laden phonecall, ah the safety of the internet) on NME’s new band list for 2013 I then cheekily gathered the smidgeons of gems culled from said Spotify playlist for later internal consumption. One of the aforementioned delights came via Holy Esque, a P.S. I Love You for people who’ve never heard of that Canadian duo but who will very soon now be googling like their life depended on it. The first thing that you’ll noticed about the Glasgow troupe is the slightly bonkers vocals supplied by Pat Hynes (akin to when Mark Greaney of JJ72 full-throttled). Dig deeper and there is a good deal more at work, namely a driving momentum that is coated in melody laden devices. Still unsigned Holy Esque will surely find a suitor following a soon to be very heralded appearance at this years SXSW. KD
