Now my knowledge of the New Delhi folk scene is no better or worse than your average indie bloke but when you’ve got operators like Bipul Chettri dispensing such splendid sounds as ‘Wildfire’ it may be time to discover what else the city has to offer. Written about a time when Chettri witnessed the flaming licks of a forest fire in the hills of Darjeeling this is a piece of work that takes so many unexpected turns one can almost feel how that experience was his inspiration. It is taken from his ‘Sketches of Darjeeling’ album which has picked up quite a bit of praise online, if not exactly being the darling it should be in the mainstream press. There’s plenty of time though anda burning talent such as this can only remain relatively hidden for so long. KD
