Pembroke – Thump

‘Thump’ initially reminds of She & Him, that laid back approach and a certain twinkle in the eye suggests that the joke is actually on us. Not that we’re complaining because this is just great fun. The brass asides add plenty to Ellen Quinn Banville’s chirpy expressions but she is undoubtedly the central focus as she effortlessly jazzes up the jaded love song motif. Fiona Cahill is the other side of Pembroke, writing the lyrics and playing the acoustics, and the Dublin girls have certainly infused plenty of their current home in gay Paris in a sound that is deliciously vivant. Debut album ‘At Sea’ is out now. KH
