Zach Schimpf – Habitat

A lone voice on an open prairie, not sounding lonely but free of the company you’d expect from a 21st century composition. The result is a break from the hustle and bustle; Sufjan Stevens stripped back or early Bright Eyes when the sense of wonder was true. ‘Habitat’ has these plodding beats that don’t disturb the feeling in the slightest. It takes something extra to feel this denuded, reciprocated by a column of exposed hearts listening in. Hard to believe that St. Louis artist Zach Schimpf can remain so caught up in the moment seven albums in. KH
