You won’t be able to tell from the atmospheric Mogwai reminding opening that there is something tropical on the way. But then the banjo parts usher those psychedelic tendencies, a dreamy vocal that is all Beach Boys and Lord Huron but depicted with such softness I could picture the sun going down on another perfect day. Ok, it might have all been a mirage but ‘Darling’ makes for an experience that is good for the listener’s health, soul and psyche – so much so in fact that I felt it hold my hand. A warm fuzzy feeling from this South Carolina act. Who wants to feel Christmas in February? KH
