Relay – Context

Yes it may be derivative but if you are so inclined it can hardly be regarded as a crime when the band you emulate are My Bloody Valentine. And Relay manage to do a really good job of adding their own twist to the classic shoegaze sound. The band are headed by Jeff Ziegler who started life as a producer but gradually began recording the sounds that were going around his head. As we’ve come to expect in these matters lyrics take a backseat while the discord arranges itself in fuzzed out formations that eerily come together as a whole. Ziegler has the ethereal voice to ride the cool drone and in the process creates a scene that is well worth celebrating. KD
