Levy – Glorious

Given that Levy seem to have disbanded I was pleasantly surprised to get a mail from James Levy explaining that the bands sophomore will be released in September. Several rough mixes from ‘Glorious’ have been floating about for a while but the departure of Matthew Diskin to Foreign Islands (!) and Levy’s own offshoot Yvel seemed to suggest that the new record would never see the light of day. But things are actually looking up with Levy supporting Ash in London in July and a single ‘Glorious’ following soon afterwards. ‘Glorious’ (the title track) is a slight change of tact from earlier Levy audio with a distinct Morrissey influence going on (don’t worry other tracks like ‘Squeeze’ are about to give ‘Rotten Love’ a run for its money in the break your heart department). As ever it is ridiculously endowed with fancy twists and turns, elaborately tailored yet still softly sumptuous on the ear. KD
