The Voom Blooms – Politics & Cigarettes

There no denying the power of a simple angular riff, something the Voom Blooms know only too well. Their debut single ‘Politics & Cigarettes’ is an ode to this very fact as the glistening chord that drives piece turns the standard into the wondrous. George Guildford focuses the mind with his bratish outpourings (who needs alcohol when you have politics?) and the ratatat drumming punches the otherwise glacial vibes. It may remind of Interpol but you get the feeling that this is just the surface of what could be an emerging talent. The Voom Blooms are stepping up their campaign later in the summer when they release their first EP ‘The Astronauts’ and if they continue on their upward curve Loughborough could soon be well marked on a lot of classroom maps.
