Aster – Attempting To Multiply

Having SXSW on your doorstep every Spring has got to help I guess but Austin still punches above it’s weight in the great bands producing department. And here is another one, a small band as it happens because Aster only number two people. Bryan Ellis supplies the vocals and guitars while Tim Husmann pretty much does the rest. Quite puzzling how they recreate their sound on stage but on record Aster sound like an ingeniously put together act. ‘Some Things Seldom Heard Of’ is their first album and with bubbling electronic wonders like ‘Attempting To Multiply’ present throughout it is likely to propel them skywards (be careful not to damage those delicate satellite instruments lads). Ellis’s vocals do have a touch of the Jason Lytle’s about them and the music often appropriates Grandaddy’s awkward gift for melting hearts. Watch them fly. KD
