Mitchell Museum – Warning Bells

It’s funny the first thing that popped into my head when I heard this was ‘Time To Pretend‘. The two are pretty different but they both single-handedly boost the happiness index wherever they are played so that must be it. If anything I prefer ‘Warning Bells’ and given it was recorded in Glasgow you’ve got to award extra points to the foursome for making it sound so tropical and cosy (like the Monkees). Make no mistake this could be huge, perched effortlessly in an evening’s worth of the finest indie music down your local dungeon or delighting daytime radio enthusiasts used to soggy cabbage. Two of the Mitchell boys used to be in a band called Afterchristmas, so it is somewhat ironic that their predicted (call me the indie Nostradamus) worldwide acclaim should occur in the weeks just preceding the jolly season. This is the magic new sound of young Scotland. KD

Oh to be in Scotland (or Ireland for that matter) in 2008! It seems that everything fresh, happy, new and lovely is coming from there these days. Thanks for this, it’s fantastic xoxo

No big surprise to me. I have seen them go from strength to strength from their early days beforechristmas:) They have always had the potential to really go places, but now they seem to be starting to really bring that potential to fruition. I heard them on Jim Gellatly’s programme on radio scotland (the music bed) last night(check out last half hour of the programme on the bbci player),and he was waxing lyrical about them. And believe you me that guy knows his onions!!(very few have the legendary John Peel award! ) Also they have just been named by the legendary Glasgow Venue ..King Tuts Your Sound artist of the month. Before Christmas? After Christmas?..we have Mitchell Museum..As Indie Nostradamus says…Watch this space…..
