It may come from an album called ‘Mellow Funk’ but that’s one description that won’t sit easy with Milan Jay’s ‘Avenue’. Quite simply it is a tour de force comprising Daft Punk remixing Jean Michel Jarre as they both find themselves down in Gaillimh on a wet and windy Saturday. Thankfully there’s no sign of the dreaded vocoder but Milan does call Galway home so that summation is only a partial untruth. ‘Mellow Funk’ is being given away for free on bandcamp and it is an enjoyable trip inside the insides of a korg. ‘Avenue’ is by far the nuttiest composition and all the better for it, its got legs and it sure knows how to use them. Now if Milan could only hook up with Low Sea and Nouveau Noise there’d be a very special night on the cards down shop street. Galway abu! KD
