Must be that MGMT and Empire of the Sun have created a genre all of their own. One that is itself inspired by eighties electro wunderkids but with a contemporary markup (and dare I say it makeup). The Naked and Famous sit quite comfortably in this settlement and adopt the oft used trick of a part digitized vocal to make their point. ‘Young Blood’ is a mildly psychedelic romp that sees Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith engage with a herd of lolloping synth. It tore the New Zealand charts apart and it seems it could repeat the trick up North if their current European tour (including a few stops here and Belfast) goes to plan. KD
