Call To Mind – A9

The first words that spring to mind are undoubtedly Sigur Ros but then Call To Mind do come from a similar isolation, the Scottish Highlands. They have been active for 5 years, although active is hardly the right word given that in that time all that has emerged has been two self-titled EP’s (and a previously unreleased track on a compilation from that label in Dublin called Indiecater). If this is what they come up with though, we’ll forgive the slow crawl because ‘A9’ is stunning. In these situations it is easy to resort to default Highland topography descriptives so instead we’ll settle for structures from habitation. ‘A9’ heralds a cathedral of sound, fragile yet as sturdy as granite. It should stop you in tracks, be they snow or heather, all depends on your wilderness of choice. KD
