This is really all over the place, both in terms of the context that informs it and the delivery that this Minnesota 3-piece decided to give their kernel of creativity. Put in plain English, I’m simply gaga for it. Put in plainer English, hooray! ‘Ponds’ sounds like it was recorded in one take and does not suffer in any respect from an adherence to convention. The playing is all over the place, dripping in reverb, and the singer sounds drunk yet there are savvy instincts at work, the sort capable of inventing a slacker classic at the drop of a (hi-) hat. It’s all very exciting and I’m off to eagerly rummage for more from their ‘Drift’ EP from 2009. KD
