‘Galactica’ opens like a Mercury Rev tune from ‘Deserter Songs’ and it retains that dreamlike quality throughout. In fact it almost swallowed me whole as it reached the centrepiece such were the lavish arrangements and sense of instrumental melancholy – and all recorded from the Bristol band’s own DIY recording space. Of course it wouldn’t work without a great lead and Junodream certainly have one, pulling our heartstrings with the same effectiveness as his guitar chords. Understated but most definitely sumptuous stuff. KH
